Article Summary. Method 1. Sort clothes normally. Remember to separate lights and darks and to keep delicate fabrics separate from tougher fabrics. This method will require you to use warm water, so if some of your clothes can only be washed in cold, you may want to use a different method to eliminate the smell of body odor from your clothes. Soak clothes in warm water and baking soda. Put clothes in a laundry basin, bucket, sink, or tub. Add enough warm water to that they are all completely submerged.
Add two cups of baking soda to the basin. Stir it around a bit so that the baking soda is dispersed into the water. Let sit for at least several hours, if not overnight. You can also soak your clothes in a washing machine.
Add your clothes to the machine and turn it on, so the basin of the machine begins to fill with water. Once the basin is filled, add two cups of baking soda to the basin and stop the machine. You should then let your clothes sit in the water and baking soda for a couple hours. Wash clothes by hand, or restart your washing machine. It's necessary to wash the baking soda out of your clothes after they have soaked.
If washing by hand, use a normal amount of laundry detergent. You may need to change the water several times to get all of the soap and baking soda out. If using your washing machine, just turn it back on and add laundry soap, as usual. You can also try this method with vinegar. Add one cup of vinegar to your laundry and allowing it to soak for several hours, however, after soaking your clothes in vinegar water, you will need to wash them with bleach-free detergent. Combining bleach and vinegar will create toxic fumes that are hazardous to your health.
Hang outside to dry, if possible. If that is not possible, you might consider laying your clothes out on a towel to dry. Wring the clothing out so that it is not dripping wet and lay it flat on a towel. Leave the clothing to dry for 24 - 48 hours. Using a small brush, like an old toothbrush, scrub the stain in a circular motion for several minutes. Keep adding additional detergent or soap if needed. Allow the fabric to rest for 30 minutes before placing it in the washing machine.
Finally, wash the item in the warmest water you can safely use for the material. For best results, find a dish soap that is specifically labeled for dissolving oil since these often have a special type of oil-eating bacteria as an ingredient. Your clothing should be grease-free after a single wash, but you can repeat the process again if it's not.
Pour on some baby powder. As soon as you're able, pour a small amount of baby powder all over the fresh grease stains on your clothing. The baby powder is fine enough that it will fill in the crevices between the fibers, and absorb the grease. Leave the baby powder to 'soak' for minutes, and then brush it off. The combination should do the trick, and by the time the clothing has dried, there should be no trace of grease left! Rub some chalk on it.
Fill in your grease stain with plain white chalk, or scrape some of the powder over the stain. Allow it to sit for minutes and then rub it off.
If the stain is still visible, you can wash it with cold water. Cover it up with cornstarch. Yes, another one of the fine powders just like baby powder and chalk , cornstarch works wonders at soaking up fresh grease and oil stains.
You can brush off the cornstarch afterward, or leave it on and put it in the washing machine. Wash your clothes on 'cold', and your grease stain should be gone! Pour on some talcum powder. Don't have any of the aforementioned powders on hand? Try using talcum powder to remove the stains.
Follow the same process as explained above by pouring a small amount of the powder onto the grease stain, and allowing it to soak for minutes. Make a salt and rubbing alcohol solution. This solution works best for stains on thicker fabrics, such as denim or linen. Mix together one part salt with three parts rubbing alcohol, and then pour it onto the grease stain. Use a soft cloth to rub the mixture into the stain, working it into the fibers. Allow the solution to soak for minutes, and then wash your clothing as you normally would.
By the time the clothing has been washed and dried, there should be a missing grease spot! Use a dry cleaning solvent. If you're up for spending a few bucks, pick up a specialty dry cleaning solution used for cleaning up grease stains. These are typically spray-on or iron-on liquids that are applied directly to the stain prior to washing.
Because they are dry-cleaning grade, they should work out the stains almost immediately, making your clothing look good-as-new. Method 2. Spray on some hairspray. Believe it or not, hairspray can actually work to remove set-in grease stains.
Heavily douse your grease stain with hairspray, using a paper towel in between the fabric and the spray. Allow it to soak for thirty minutes, and then put it in the washing machine for a regular wash. Air-dry your clothes when finished in the washing machine, and you should be good to go! If this process doesn't work the first time, you can repeat it until the stain is totally removed. Hold the negative at least 2 inches away from the white screen otherwise it will look pixelated.
Hold the phone as close to the negative as you can. Use the voice control feature. Try a few different angles and a few different distances until you get the best look. Once I had my chosen method I was able to scan 5 rolls of film in an hour or less. I had a tiny bit of trouble finding a good solid white background but eventually I opened a blank note and turned my brightness all the way up. I hooked clothes pins over my laptop screen with a flexible wire to hold the negative still and away from the screen.
Then I was able to easily steady my iPhone near the negative to get a good shot. Another option would be to steady your phone with a tripod or kick-stand. My scans were not as good as the originals were, but these were pictures that were lost to me. It was wonderful to see them again. Thank you for these comments! Just one thing, the camera needs to see the side holes in order to have the best automatic cropping ; If you'd like to suggest a feature or an improvement to the app, please write in to us at support photomyne.
We'll do our best to incorporate the same and earn a five star rating from you. This app is quite awful to say the least. The colours are supremely off compared to scans I have done with the exact same negatives using even amateur equipment, which for me is the biggest issue. Also the scans from the app seem as though they are altered to be more grainy and have more noise in the images than there should be, almost like those vintage Super 8 emulator apps.
Even just taking a photo and reversing the negative in photoshop myself is significantly better and only takes marginally more time and effort.
I read the instructions before trying to scan my negatives and when I had poor results I read the reviews. Holding the negative the supposed proper distance, or closer or further, has little to no effect on the grainy results and even less on the washed out and dull colours.
